A centuries old convent in a city inherited from ancient civilisations.
The Pousada Convento de Tavira - Historic Hotel is located in Southern Portugal, in the historical centre of Tavira, a typical city in the Algarve with an inheritance of ancient civilizations. It was a Phoenician colony, populated by Romans and also an important city during the Arab occupation.
This building was the Santo Agostinho Hermits Convent founded by D. Sebastião around 1569. Recently transformed into a hotel, it was refurbished in a way that benefits from its heritage and ancient architecture.
The façade onto the main square and the noble Baroque inspired staircase, the Renaissance cloister from the 16th and 17th century, as well as the Arab archaeological remains discovered during the refurbishment all standout.
The rooms are varied and comfortable. The common areas are welcoming and offer everything needed to enjoy a few days away, to celebrate a special occasion at a banquet or to organise a corporate event.
The city of Tavira, its 37 churches and Moorish castle invite a more in depth view, as well as the neighbouring Ria Formosa natural park with its never ending beaches.
